Killian Hayes’ rookie season with the Detroit Pistons might be over after only seven games.

A rough start to the 2020-21 NBA season just got so much worse for the Detroit Pistons, as star rookie point guard Killian Hayes could be done for the year due to injury.

The No. 7 overall pick from the 2020 NBA Draft sustained a hip injury while driving to the basketball on Monday night vs. the division rival Milwaukee Bucks. Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic reports it is a labral tear on Hayes’ hip. Detroit is only 1-6 on the year and is now about to face the harsh reality that Hayes’ rookie season is likely over with and done. What a blow.

The Pistons are the favorite to get the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft

Hayes averaged 4.6 points, 3.6 assists and 1.1 rebounds per game in 21.1 minutes per contest over seven games. Detroit has the worst record in basketball through Jan. 5. The Pistons are among the worst teams in the NBA and it does not look like things will be getting better anytime soon for Dwane Casey’s team. This team is certainly lottery-bound at this time.

Hayes provided a great deal of intrigue in his rookie season for the Pistons. The French-American point guard is a sliver of hope for a brighter future for Pistons basketball. Though he could return at the tail-end of the season, a hip injury of this magnitude will likely sideline him for the rest of the campaign. The worst part is Pistons basketball is on the verge of becoming unwatchable.

You hate to see an up-and-coming star talent like Hayes succumb to an injury like this so soon.
