The Detroit Pistons aren’t likely to have a ton of cap space to spend on free agents this offseason, so they will be searching for bargains.

Fans should probably lower their expectations for free agency, as Troy Weaver already said that keeping their current guys and looking for in-house improvements will likely be the way forward.

The Pistons still have Blake Griffin’s hefty salary on the books for next season, so they are probably a summer away from making any type of big splash in free agency.

But that doesn’t mean they won’t try to find some guys, including from some of the teams that are currently in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Here is one low-cost free agent from each playoff team in the East. As you will see, the pickings are slim, but the Pistons might be able to find a cheap contributor.

Detroit Pistons: Free agents from the Wizards

The Wizards are one of many Eastern Conference playoff teams that won’t have many attractive free agents for the Pistons.

Guys like Robin Lopez and former Piston Ish Smith will likely look for jobs on contenders and neither really fit the Pistons’ payroll or timeline.

The only guy I could see the Pistons having any interest in is Raul Neto, who could provide some 3-point shooting as a backup point guard if the Pistons are unable to re-sign Frank Jackson and Dennis Smith Jr.

Detroit Pistons: Possible free agents from the Celtics

Most of the Celtics are locked up for next season, so there isn’t much to choose from here. I did identify rebounding and shot blocking as two issues that need to be fixed. Luke Kornet is one free agent who has at least shown he can block shots, but he can’t do much else.

I can’t see any interest here, so the Celtics are a team that doesn’t have much if anything to offer the Pistons in free agency unless they saw Kornet as a defensive upgrade over Jahlil Okafor and sent Okafor packing.
