A key Detroit Pistons front office member has departed the organization.

Former senior director of player personnel Gregg Polinsky is no longer with the Pistons, a league source confirmed to the Free Press on Wednesday. Polinsky was hired in July 2018 by the previous front office guided by Ed Stefanski, and exits after a season with the new front office led by Troy Weaver.

Polinsky’s departure is unrelated to the hire of former Michigan coach John Beilein, who joined the Pistons this week as the senior advisor/player development, a source told the Free Press.

Polinsky reported to Weaver, while Beilein will be on Dwane Casey’s staff. Beilein will be heavily involved in Detroit’s player development program, while Polinsky was on the scouting and draft side of operations.

Nearly a year into his tenure as general manager, Weaver is still shaping his front office. Prior to joining the Pistons, Polinsky was a scout for the Brooklyn and New Jersey Nets for nearly 20 years.

ESPN’s Bobby Marks was first to report the news on Polinsky.
