After falling to No. 5 in the NBA draft lottery, the Detroit Pistons had a tough task on their hands.

The top three players of Victor Wembanyama, Scoot Henderson and Brandon Miller were viewed by experts as in a class of their own, specifically Wembanyama.

After Amen Thompson was selected by the Houston Rockets at No. 4, the Pistons had to choose between Amen’s twin brother, Ausar, Houston’s Jarace Walker, Villanova’s Cam Whi tmore, or potentially UCF’s Taylor Hendricks or Arkansas’ Anthony Black.

Ultimately, the Pistons landed on Ausar Thompson, making the Thompsons the first-ever twins to be top-five picks in the NBA draft.

Both Amen and Ausar spent the last year at the Overtime Elite academy, an alternative option to college basketball or G-League.

Ausar is thought of as the better off-ball player, meaning he’ll be a potentially better fit with Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey.

As always, the social media universe had thoughts on the selection. Mostly, fans seemed to be excited about the selection, but of course, there were naysayers.

Here’s a look at how social media reacted:
