The extended wait for Wednesday’s NBA Draft is almost over, continuing a week of roster-remaking frenzy, with the league opening the period for trades Monday, the draft Wednesday and free agency beginning Friday.

With only a couple of days remaining, there is still intrigue about who will be selected with the No. 1 pick, though some signs are pointing to the top three being fairly solid. The order could change, but the players — James Wiseman, LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards — seem to be the consensus among many of the experts.

What happens after that could be interesting, setting the stage for a frenzy of trades at the top and even down through the remainder of the lottery, as teams seek value for their current players and future draft picks for an immediate return. There’s a level of uncertainty, though, because teams have not been able to do the customary number of workouts and interviews for their prospects.

That puts some level of risk in this group of picks, but for teams that already had done their due diligence before the pandemic, it’s somewhat less. Many have done their scouting during the college season and getting a gauge on international players, giving them a full dossier of information on some of the lesser-known targets.

The Pistons pick seventh in the first round and don’t have a second-round pick, but general manager Troy Weaver has said that they could possibly trade up, trade down or stay put to get an impactful player to add to their roster.
