Detroit Pistons center Jahlil Okafor will miss 6-8 weeks after undergoing surgery to clean the lateral meniscus in his left knee, the team announced on Wednesday.
Okafor, who signed with Detroit in the offseason for two years and $4 million, missed the previous four games with either bilateral knee soreness or left knee soreness. He has appeared in 12 games this season, averaging 4.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 10 minutes per game.
The No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft, Okafor, 25, is on his fourth team in six seasons.
Rookie Isaiah Stewart has settled in nicely as the backup center, and will continue in his role as Okafor works to return from surgery.
