NBA free agency 2022 is here, beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. when teams may negotiate deals with unrestricted free agents during the moratorium. Those players cannot officially sign until 12:01 p.m. on July 6, when the new league year starts. Trades can also become official at that time.
The 2022-23 salary cap is set at $123.6 million — an increase over the previous estimate of $122 million — with the luxury tax line at $150.3 million. (Last season’s cap was $112.4 million and the luxury tax was $136.6 million.)

The top names on the market are young restricted free agents Deandre Ayton (Phoenix) and Miles Bridges (Charlotte), along with veterans Zach LaVine (Chicago) and Jalen Brunson (Dallas).
The Detroit Pistons, led by third-year general manager Troy Weaver, have around $20 million — not counting the expected re-signing of Marvin Bagley III — in cap space to spend on role players if they choose. Another trade might not be far away.
