We’re 18 games into the Detroit Pistons‘ 2020-21 season, and though their 4-14 record is among the NBA’s worst, they’ve been entertaining with signs of hope.
The Pistons finally admitted they needed a rebuild, and after a wild offseason under first-year general manager Troy Weaver, they’re about where most expected them to be: Competitive but bad.
Jerami Grant is an early favorite for the league’s most improved player award and playing at an All-Star level, Josh Jackson has showed he was worth a look and the rookies and other young players have had standout moments.
Meanwhile, Blake Griffin has not played well, and Derrick Rose has been hit and miss, and will be floated in trade rumors up to the March 25 deadline.
The Detroit Free Press is Michigan’s largest newspaper, and Omari Sankofa II is on his first year covering the Pistons for the Free Press, after covering the Memphis Grizzlies for The Athletic. He’s a graduate of Renaissance High School and Michigan State.
We’re sure you have plenty of questions about the team, league, NBA draft — Cade Cunningham, anyone? — and more. Omari is here to answer them in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) at 11 a.m. Thursday using the Free Press’ Reddit account (are you following us? If not, you should).
