Pistons rookies Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart were named to the 17-player 2021 USA Basketball Select Team on Thursday. They will train with Grant and the rest of the national team at their Las Vegas training camp, July 6-9 at UNLV’s Mendenhall Center.

THE FUTURE: Cade Cunningham is the perfect player in today’s NBA. The Pistons must take him No. 1

They will join 11 other young NBA players, most of whom recently completed their first or second seasons, and four other players with USA and international experience.

“This USA Select Team continues the legacy established by previous Select teams of helping prepare our USA National Team for the Tokyo Olympic Games,” managing director Jerry Colangelo said in a release. “With all the uncertainty of how many of our Olympic Team members will be available for the USA training camp because of the overlap with the NBA Finals, we chose a USA Select Team consisting of many of the top young NBA players and four players who not only own international experience, but who played recently for USA Basketball in important national team qualifying competitions.”

Both Bey and Stewart had standout rookie seasons for the Pistons. Bey was named to the All-Rookie first team last month, and Stewart made the second team, making them first duo to earn All-Rookie honors for the Pistons since Andre Drummond and Kyle Singler in 2012-13.

Bey was the 19th pick of the 2020 draft and averaged 12.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 38% from 3. He started 53 games and set the franchise rookie record for made 3-pointers in a single season (175) as well as the NBA rookie record for most games with at least four made 3-pointers (21).
