The Detroit Pistons released their 2021 summer league roster on Thursday, and it’s a stacked one.
The roster is headlined by Cade Cunningham, who the Pistons selected first overall in this year’s NBA draft. Second-round picks Luka Garza and Isaiah Livers and Detroit’s entire 2020 draft class will also make the trip, along with their lone first-round pick in 2019, Sekou Doumbouya.

Because last year’s summer league was canceled, it will be the first one for not only this year’s picks, but for Killian Hayes, Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart and Saben Lee as well. It’ll also be a largely new experience for Doumbouya, who suffered a hamstring injury early into his 2019 summer league stint.
Deividas Sirvydis and Tyler Cook, who were on last year’s roster but were waived this offseason, are both on Detroit’s summer league roster. Stewart, Livers and two-way forward Chris Smith won’t play due to injury.
The Pistons will play five games at summer league, which will take place from Aug. 8-17 at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas.
Detroit is setting its summer league expectations high, Cunningham said Tuesday. They will play four preliminary games before the championship game Aug. 17. If they don’t qualify for the championship, they will play a fifth game either the 16th or 17th.
“We want to win summer league, we want to go undefeated as a team,” Cunningham said. “On top of that, we want to just take a step forward as far as gelling as a young core, being together, playing for each other. I want everyone to leave summer league feeling like they became a better player and then that they became a better piece to this puzzle and add it to this team so we can go into the regular season feeling good about ourselves. Winning is the No. 1 thing, but individually hopefully everybody can leave there feeling like there’s a new confidence going into the season.”
