Bally Sports Detroit to launch new streaming service for those without cable

Detroit Free Press

Bally Sports Detroit, the home for the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons games, announced Monday it’s launching a direct-to-consumer streaming service titled Bally Sports+, offering fans a chance to catch their favorite team without a cable subscription.

Bally Sports+ is set to be available for consumers on Thursday. This services comes more than a month after Sinclair Broadcasting Group, which owns the Bally Sports regional networks, announced its plan for standalone streaming services on May 4.

The company’s announcement detailed Bally Sports+ will cost $19.99 per month or $189.95 for a year. Still, Bally Sports Detroit has not confirmed if its service will cost the same price, and it’s unclear if Bally Sports+ subscribers will be able to watch out-of-market games. Currently, Bally Sports is the only place fans can watch local coverage of the Pistons, Tigers and Red Wings, and the network is not carried by several major TV providers, such as Hulu, YouTube TV and Dish Network.

In a statement to the Free Press, Bally Sports confirmed Pistons, Tigers and Red Wings games will stream on Bally Sports+, and subscribers will be able to watch Bally Sports’ televised MHSAA and NCAA events through the service as well.

Bally Sports launched in March 2021 and was formerly known as Fox Sports Networks before it was acquired and sold by the Walt Disney Company in 2019.
