The Detroit Pistons couldn’t resist at least one trade Thursday night during the 2023 NBA draft.

Troy Weaver traded their 31st overall pick to acquire the No. 25 pick, Houston guard Marcus Sasser, from Boston, who had received the pick from Memphis earlier this week.

Here’s what the TV analysts on the ESPN broadcast had to say about the selection:

“He fits well in the Motor City because Marcus Sasser is a three-level scorer that is a fighter. I mean he plays hard. He’s got an attack mentality. He can shoot it, good off the dribble, capable passer, and he’s a really good defender, especially on the ball. Opposing players in isolation shot just 30% when Marcus Sasser was guarding him. Marcus Sasser’s a winner and he’ll fit in really good in Detroit with his work ethic.”

Seventeen points per game, just under two steals per game, he shot at a high percentage. He can bring a lot to this Detroit team. Detroit needs a strong wing defender, someone that can knock down shots. A “3 and D” we talk about that a lot, it’s just the nature of the NBA and he’s gonna bring that.
