USA Basketball announced the 2024 Select Team, who will train alongside Team USA in preparation for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris. The Pistons’ very own Jalen Duren is one of fifteen players named to the group who will train daily with the USA men’s national team in Las Vegas through their training camp in July. Select Team’s are picked and utilized to help the USA national teams prepare for major international competitions.
This rendition of the USA Select Team features a roster of 12 current NBA or G League players. Duren will compete with Jaime Jaquez Jr., Brandon Miller, Trey Murphy, Keegan Murray, Brandin Podziemski, Payton Pritchard, Jabari Smith Jr., Jalen Suggs and Amen Thompson. Former Piston Langston Galloway is also on the Select Team roster, along with Micah Potter, another former Piston for a brief stint after he signed a 10-day hardship contract with the team in late-2021 while most of the roster was out due to health and safety protocols. Cooper Flagg, the incoming Duke freshman and early projected No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, headlines the Select Team roster.
Duren was on the 2023 USA Basketball Select Team as well, where Cade Cunningham was also member of that group. It’s currently unclear whether Cunningham received an invite to join this year’s Select Team.
Duren earned medals as a member of USA Basketball junior national teams at various FIBA World Cup and Americas competitions. Now, he gets a chance to help Team USA prepare to compete for a gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
Pistons great and current managing director for the USA Basketball Men’s team Grant Hill spoke to the importance of the opportunity for players named to the Select Team.
“There is a tremendous amount of talent on this Select squad with the significant job of helping the 2024 USA Men’s National Team as they begin their journey to the Olympics,” Hill said in a statement. “Each of these athletes will play a role in our preparation as we also develop the national team pipeline for the future.”
Hill is a former member of the USA Select team himself.
Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley will serve as the head coach of the Select group.
Duren gets an opportunity to get work in against some of the NBA’s stars on Team USA and the up-and-comers alongside him on the Select Team.
